Mary Bevan
British soprano Mary Bevan is internationally renowned in baroque, classical and contemporary repertoire, and appears regularly with leading conductors, orchestras and ensembles around the world. She is a winner of the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Young Artist award and UK Critics’ Circle Award for Exceptional Young Talent in music and was awarded a MBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list in 2019.
She is also a Patron of Continuo Foundation and The London Chorus.
Mary enjoys fruitful artistic relationships with the many orchestras with whom she regularly performs, including the OAE, AAM, English Concert, La Nuova Musica, Concerto Copenhagen, Gabrieli Consort, CBSO, RPO, BBC Philharmonic, BBCSSO, amongst others. She has performed with the Royal Opera, English National Opera (with whom she was a Harewood Artist), the BBC Proms, the Royal Danish Theatre, Teatro Real Madrid, at Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw, Elbphilharmonie, Theater an der Wien, and performs regularly as a recitalist at the Wigmore Hall and many other concert and operatic venues around the world. In 2023, Mary makes her debuts at Bayerische Staatsoper (Calisto in Cavalli’s ‘La Calisto’), La Fenice (Eurydice in Gluck’s ‘Orfeo’), Rome (Cleopatra in Handel’s Giulio Cesare) and Zurich (Thalie and La Folie in Rameau’s Platée).
2023 saw the release of her latest album Visions Illuminées, a celebration of French orchestral songs, and her past releases include her art song albums Voyages and The Divine Muse with pianist Joseph Middleton; Songs to the Moon with the Myrthen Ensemble; Handel's Queens and Handel in Italy (Volumes 1 and 2) with London Early Opera, all released by Signum Records; Ralph Vaughan Williams Time and Space, Purer than Pearl and Folk Songs (volumes 1-4) with Albion Records; Haydn Nelson Mass with Coro; Mendelssohn songs for Champs Hill Records; Handel: The Triumph of Time and Truth and Handel: Ode for St Cecilia’s Day; Vaughan Williams Symphony No.3 and Schubert Rosamunde with the BBC Philharmonic.
