International Baroque Consort

'Música de España'

The rare music of 16th-18th century Spain

'Música de España'
International Baroque Consort is focusing on Spanish Baroque music, a celebration of Spain in the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as music with strong Spanish ties. The program will feature music by Joaquín Martínez de la Roca, anonymously composed music set to the words of Lope de Vega, Juan Francisco Escuder, Diego Ortiz, Sebastián Durón, and Giuseppe Antonio Paganelli. This music is rare and some of it has been buried and/or forgotten. What the IBC has done, is acquired and arranged each of the associated pieces so that we can use them, as well as make them more available to the public, making this year’s goal to revive this music significantly for listeners and performers alike. Beginning in 2024, we anticipate doing a recording of all the music from the "Música de España" series, as well as publish all arrangements of the music individually and as a set on our website. The project will take place solely in the United Kingdom this year, from central England, to Northern Wales, and continuing upwards into Glasgow, with intentions in participating in an early music festival or two. This project program will also come back up again in a year or two when we anticipate performing this set in its home country, Spain. Please keep checking our website for information on a more specific date and time for this performance, as well as how you can support our ensemble and our mission!
