Members of Dunedin Consort and students from the Royal Academy of Music Baroque Soloists join forces for Purcell’s Hail! Bright Cecilia, written in 1692 in honour of St Cecilia, patron saint of musicians. Preceding this famous ode is Sir John Clerk of Penicuik’s cantata, Leo Scotiae irritatus c.1700. This Cantata for solo soprano and orchestra depicts Scotland’s ambitions (and unsuccessful) venture to set up an empire in Panama. Pre-concert talk at 6.30pm
