Full Event Details
J S Bach’s Mass in B Minor is the composer’s monumental sacred work, and his final masterpiece. Encompassing gorgeous harmonies, wild virtuosity, exuberant joy, pathos and the oh-so-moving final ‘Dona nobis pacem’ this Mass is rightly acclaimed as one of the pinacles of Western classical music. Few masterpieces reward the effort more gloriously, and few ensembles are better-equipped to approach it than the pioneering early music ensemble The English Concert. This transcendent music has been central to their artistic mission for over half a century, but every performance is still an adventure, and in this concert their journey is led by Principal Guest Director Kristian Bezuidenhout, described by The Guardian as the “most characterful of keyboard personalities”, plus acclaimed soloists.
