Full Event Details
Featuring vibrant baroque music from Mexico, South American and Spain, we showcase the splendour of polyphonic writing that emerged in such musical centres as Zacateca and Potosi where New and Old World musical traditions merged in the seventeenth-century. We explore villancicos, chaconas and motets by Manuel Sumaya, Juan Arañes, Tomas de Torrejón y Velasco, Juan Hidalgo, and Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla, with cornets, voices, and continuo instruments.
