Before the Guillotine
A journey of sumptuous French and Italian music played on the smallest and largest members of the viol family. Our programme explores music written in France in the 100 years before the French Revolution, featuring the high sounds of the quinton - the violin shaped viol - with continuo, playing music that violinists or flutists enjoy. We play the mesmerizing music of Marais - the Sonnerie de Sainte Geneviève du Mont de Paris on an original quinton, Tielke bass viol and original cello with theorbo. With our bass viol trio, we play Forqueray.
