In Echo

In the Summertime...

Johann Sommer and the 17th-century German Sonata

In the Summertime...
Gawain brings his virtuoso ensemble In Echo, comprising cornettos, violins, viola, violone and organ, to celebrate summer in Silverdale, featuring virtuosic 17th century German music and the ensemble’s own take on Pachelbel’s famous Canon in D.

Johann Sommer's punningly-titled 1623 collection of instrumental sonatas, Fröhliche Sommerzeit, is full of inventive writing for 2, 3 and 4 instruments. This concert shows off the playfulness and virtuosity of Sommer’s music, as well as that of contemporaries such as Scheidt, Vierdanck and Pachelbel.

Gawain Glenton - cornetto, recorder
Helen Roberts - cornetto
Oliver Webber - violin, viola
Rachel Byrt - violin, viola
Joanna Levine - violone
Silas Wollston - organ, harpsichord
