Sarah Small
Nothing Gold Can Stay
A Viol and Voice Recital
featuring Kim Porter (alto and composer)

Viola da gamba player Sarah Small is on a mission to demonstrate how touring can be done differently.
Disillusioned by the lack of support for sustainable touring within the arts, along with concerns about the impact and cost of audience travel from rural areas to venues in cities, she’s taking matters into her own hands and cycling from venue to venue to share her programme ‘Good Again?’ with audiences far and wide.
Centred around the work ‘Good Againe’ by Tobias Hume, the programmes feature music expressing the feelings of grief, contemplation, and hope felt by many of us during these unstable times, along with tales from the road that remind us of the beauty in slow travel.
Collaborating with musicians as she reaches their local areas, Sarah is delighted not only perform alongside alto and composer Kim Porter, but to have commissioned Kim’s piece ‘Nothing Gold Can Stay’ and premiere it together in Durham.
Their programme also includes Purcell’s ‘Musick for a While’, Dowland’s ‘Time Stands Still’, and Tennyson’s poem ‘The Oak’ interwoven with Sainte-Colombe’s ‘Fantasie en rondeau’.
This concert will last approximately 70 minutes without an interval.
