About

The Beverley & East Riding Early Music Festival was established in 1988 to celebrate this glorious county town’s historic association with musicians from medieval times. Blessed by extraordinarily rich ecclesiastical buildings, and a wealth of musical carvings in stone & wood in both Beverley Minster and St Mary’s Church, Beverley is the perfect place for a festival of early music.

Run by the National Centre for Early Music, the festival draws in residents and visitors alike to its annual series of concerts, illustrated lectures and associated workshops.

The 2024 Festival opens with the vibrant young Spanish instrumental group El Gran Teatro del Mundo and closes with The Telling presenting their critically acclaimed stage show Into the Melting Pot. With guest artists including the award-winning vocal ensemble Tenebrae revelling in the musical brilliance of the Spanish Golden Age, the London Handel Players presenting their World of Inspiration programme, and the recently appointed BBC Radio 3 New Generation Baroque Ensemble Augelletti joining in – mixed together with a series of lectures and workshops designed to inform and entertain – this promises to be a weekend to remember.
